3. Be adaptable, remember plans don’t always happen, things can change, you may get to a destination and realise there are other things to see and do once you get there. Keep things flexible.

4. Many destinations have places where you can meet fellow travellers and even the locals, if your a social person, find some places where you can get the opportunity to mix with others. Some ideas are co-working spaces, hostels, local cafes, beach clubs, bars, and tours amongst others.

5. Don’t forget to take out travel insurance before you go incase of any loss or theft of valuables.

Don’t take any illicit substances that are offered to you remember some countries carry harsh penalties for possession of drugs.

37. Use the time you have alone to get to know your self and use it as an opportunity to grow and self reflect, enjoy the peace and freedom of being able to do what you want when you want. Learn to be comfortable in your own company.

47. Familiarise yourself with the laws and customs of the place your are visiting.

48. Stay healthy – keep hydrated, use sunscreen, take care when walking around (traffic in some countries can he hectic and unfamiliar to you), Take precautions when eating street food, it is advisable in many countries to use mineral water as opposed to tap water.
